Northern Michigan University is home to the Superior Dome, the largest wooden dome in the world. The Wildcat Marching Band and football team reside here, in addition to campus and community events. The geodesic dome has a diameter of 536 feet and the dome uses an artificial retractable turf field. 781 Douglas Fir beams were used to construct the dome.
